CAF Women’s Champions League CWCL:Thelma Agara Tips Rivers Angels To Excel

Former Bayelsa Queens secretary Thelma Agara has tipped Rivers Angels to ‘do well’ in the inaugural CAF Women Champions League which will be staged later in the year in Egypt.
The 7-time Nigerian champions are drawn in Group B of the CAF Zone B qualifiers alongside Hasaacas Ladies of Ghana and AS Police of Niger, with action commencing on Saturday in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.
Edwin Okon’s girls will start their quest to qualify for the maiden CAF Women Champions League with a tricky tie against Ghanaian champions Hasaacas on Saturday, 24 July.
The Jewel of Rivers booked their place in the zonal qualifiers by emerging champions of the Nigeria Women Football League Premiership for a record 7th time, courtesy of victory in the Super 6 tournament in Ijebu-Ode, three months ago.
The NFF Women Football Committee Member Agara, who is also the first female secretary of an NPFL club, believes Rivers Angels will give Nigeria quality representation at the tournament after emerging victorious from the Super 6.
Asked if she thinks the Nigerian champions will excel in the competition, the seasoned administrator said: “I think so.
“You see, sometimes I believe in this open Super 8 and Super 6 matches, because that is where you’ll really see who is who.
“I don’t so much believe in normal leagues. I have my reasons why I say ‘I don’t so much believe in normal leagues’.
“The Super 6 is an open field, everybody is there, referees, everybody, they maintain. So, if you are good, you win in Super 6 or Super 8, then you are a good side. If they (Rivers Angels) can win at this level, then they can also play very well in the continent.
