Former Aliou Cisse has resigned as head coach of the Libya national football team after just 10 matches in charge, the coach announced on Wednesday.
Cisse’s final two games ended in draws last month during friendlies against Niger and Liberia. “This March has been very special for me, as it marked my last gathering as coach of the Libyan national team,” he said, describing the experience as “incredibly enriching, both professionally and personally.”
Cisse previously managed his native Senegal for nearly a decade, from 2015 to 2024, guiding the team to its first-ever Africa Cup of Nations title in 2021, following a loss in the 2019 final.
Under his brief tenure, Libya narrowly missed out on a maiden FIFA World Cup appearance in 2026, finishing third in their qualifying group behind Cameroon and Cape Verde.
