Nigerian industrialist and philanthropist Aliko Dangote has been named to TIME Magazine’s 2026 list of the 100 Most Influential People in the World, reaffirming his position as one of the most prominent business leaders globally.
Dangote appears alongside a wide range of global figures, including political leaders such as Donald Trump, Xi Jinping, Benjamin Netanyahu, and Mark Carney, as well as religious leader Pope Leo XIV. The list also features top technology executives including Sundar Pichai and Neal Mohan.
Published on April 15, the annual TIME100 list recognises individuals whose ideas, leadership, and actions are shaping the future across sectors such as business, politics, culture, and society. Dangote’s inclusion marks his second appearance on the list, following his first recognition in 2014 for his impact on business and philanthropy.
He is the only Nigerian on the 2026 list and is featured in the “Titans” category, alongside notable figures such as Reid Wiseman, Sundar Pichai, and Neal Mohan. Other honourees in the category include philanthropists Michael Dell and Susan Dell, as well as fashion entrepreneur Ralph Lauren.
In the “Pioneers” category, Kiran Musunuru and Rebecca Ahrens-Nicklas were recognised for advances in genetic therapy, alongside Aaron Williams for contributions to heart transplant readiness. The list also highlights cultural figures such as Ranbir Kapoor, Dakota Johnson, and Kate Hudson.
As founder and president of Dangote Group, Dangote has led one of Africa’s largest industrial conglomerates, with investments spanning cement, sugar, agriculture, infrastructure, and energy. His business activities have contributed to reducing import dependence and generating employment across the continent.
In its citation, TIME highlighted Dangote’s commitment to building globally competitive industries using local resources, citing recent large-scale investments in energy and manufacturing infrastructure as evidence of his long-term vision for Africa’s economic transformation.
Beyond business, Dangote’s philanthropic work through the Aliko Dangote Foundation continues to support initiatives in healthcare, education, nutrition, and economic empowerment across Africa.
The recognition comes as the conglomerate pursues its “Vision 2030” strategy, aimed at expanding from a $30 billion enterprise into a $100 billion global powerhouse. The roadmap outlines a phased approach, with an initial focus on scaling core operations between 2025 and 2028, followed by expansion into new sectors and international markets through 2030. Planned investments include ventures in steel production, power generation, and deep-sea ports to address key industrial gaps across the continent.
The 2026 TIME100 list reflects growing global recognition of African leadership and enterprise, with Dangote’s inclusion underscoring his continued influence in shaping economic and development narratives both within Africa and internationally.
