Dangote Refinery Reaffirms PMS Market Stability

By Ayomide Otittoju

Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring market stability and the uninterrupted nationwide supply of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), underscoring its role as a stabilising force in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.
The company said that during the recent festive period, it implemented a deliberate and temporary price support intervention aimed at cushioning Nigerians amid increased household spending pressures. This initiative marked the second consecutive festive season in which the Refinery absorbed significant costs in the national interest, following logistics support provided in 2024 and a price reduction introduced in 2025 to promote affordability and calm in the market.
Despite the price reduction, the Refinery expressed concern that many filling stations failed to reflect the new pricing at the pump, effectively denying consumers the intended benefits of the intervention.
With the conclusion of the festive period, PMS prices have now been modestly realigned to sustainable levels to support long-term market stability and affordability. Under the current pricing structure, the PMS gantry price stands at ₦799 per litre, while MRS retail outlets are selling at ₦839 per litre.
Speaking on the development, the Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Petroleum Refinery, David Bird, said the facility continues to supply the domestic market with approximately 50 million litres of PMS daily, noting that nationwide evacuation and distribution operations are proceeding without disruption.
Bird explained that the Refinery’s design flexibility allows it to process a broad range of crude and intermediate feedstocks, ensuring uninterrupted PMS supply even during planned maintenance activities. He added that this capability is critical to maintaining domestic supply stability.
As a local producer, Dangote Petroleum Refinery said it remains committed to shielding the Nigerian market from import-related volatility and external supply disruptions, while contributing to price stability and energy security.
The company reiterated its focus on delivering sustainable energy solutions, stable pricing and long-term value for Nigerians.
