The vice-presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Lawal Daura, has said President Bola Tinubu is not unbeatable in the 2027 presidential election.
Daura made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, hours after the APM commissioned its presidential campaign office in Abuja.
The former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) described Tinubu as a “very amiable person” but said the president could be defeated because his administration had made several errors.
Asked whether he believed Tinubu could be beaten in 2027, Daura said, “Very well,” adding that politicians were not perfect and could make several errors, even inadvertently.
When asked whether Tinubu’s administration was making such errors, Daura again replied, “Very well.”
He, however, said the APM was not seeking to exploit the administration’s shortcomings but was interested in correcting them.
“We are not taking advantage, we are even helping to correct those errors. But those functionaries that are either incompetent or are not able to see what we are seeing may not allow it to be used,” he said.
Explaining why Nigerians should consider the APM ticket, Daura said he and the party’s presidential candidate, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, shared a common passion for Nigeria and were committed to resetting the country.
“We are a pair that seems to really understand each other; we share the same passion for this country, and don’t forget, one of our mottos is that we are resetting this country,” he said.
Daura said Makinde’s ability to connect with both older and younger generations was an advantage in the presidential race.
According to him, Makinde belongs to both the “digital and analogue ages,” making it easier for him to relate to Nigeria’s large youth population.
The former DSS chief also pledged to be a “very loyal” vice-president if elected alongside Makinde, saying any disagreements between them would be based on issues rather than personal differences.
Earlier on Monday, the APM inaugurated the Makinde/Daura Presidential Campaign Office in Abuja.
The event was attended by Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC); former Osun State Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola; national and state lawmakers; members of the APM Board of Trustees and National Working Committee, as well as other party supporters and dignitaries.
