Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) installed 148,077 meters for customers nationwide in May and June 2025, according to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

A metering factsheet released Wednesday showed that 63,180 customers were metered in May and 84,897 in June, bringing the total number of metered customers to 6,422,933 as of June. During the same period, active electricity customers increased slightly from 11,784,842 to 11,821,194.

Ikeja DisCo recorded the highest metering rate at 84.65 percent, followed by Eko at 83.33 percent and Abuja at 73.06 percent. At the other end of the scale, Yola had the lowest metering rate at 28.55 percent, with Jos and Kaduna at 29.51 percent and 33.46 percent, respectively.

Aba DisCo emerged the most improved, with its metering rate rising from 37.88 percent in May to 45.17 percent in June after installing 12,376 new meters. Benin DisCo also crossed the 50 percent threshold, moving from 49.95 percent to 50.33 percent.

Despite the gains, NERC noted that seven of the country’s 12 DisCos still fall below the 50 percent metering rate, leaving millions of customers unmetered and subject to estimated billing.
