Ecobank Nigeria, part of the pan-African Ecobank Group, has partnered with Opolo Global to empower Lagos schools through training and educational support as part of its annual Ecobank Day. This year’s event, themed “Ignite Learning with AI,” emphasized enhancing literacy, numeracy, and digital skills through Artificial Intelligence (AI) and focused on foundational learning. The flagship event took place at Zion Star School, Lagos, under the broader Ecobank Foundation’s social initiative that encourages employees to give back to their communities.
Oluwafemi Ajayi, Head of Product Development and Lagos Operations at Opolo Global, commended Ecobank’s commitment to equipping students with knowledge of AI and robotics, critical skills for the future. “This training is transformative, preparing children for the digital age and underscoring AI’s potential in education, business efficiency, and decision-making,” he remarked.
He further stated plans to extend the initiative to other schools, especially those in remote areas with a significant number of underserved students.
Ecobank noted, “Empowering Nigerian children with essential skills in literacy, numeracy, and digital technology at an early age is fundamental to their academic success and future career prospects.” As part of Ecobank Day, employees volunteered in various communities, offering literacy lessons, mentorship, and assisting schools with digital resources.
The training aligns with the second year of Ecobank’s three-year “Transforming Africa Through Education” campaign, supporting the African Union’s 2024 “Educate and Skill Africa for the 21st Century” initiative, which stresses integrating technology into education.
Since its inception in 2013, Ecobank Day has driven initiatives across Africa, addressing youth education, malaria prevention, ICT improvements, and financial literacy.
