Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has extended an olive branch to his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rival, Asue Ighodalo, urging him to set aside political differences and work together for the state’s progress.
Following the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal’s ruling affirming his victory, Okpebholo called on all citizens, including the opposition, to join hands in fostering unity and development.
“The time has come to put aside partisan differences and focus on our shared goal of building a better Edo State,” Okpebholo said.
A three-member panel, led by Justice Wilfred Kpochi, dismissed the petition filed by Ighodalo and the PDP, ruling that the petitioners failed to present sufficient evidence to substantiate claims of electoral irregularities in the September 21, 2024 election.
Reacting to the judgment, Okpebholo, through a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, expressed gratitude to the people of Edo State for their unwavering support.
“This victory belongs to every citizen and resident of Edo State. It is a mandate to continue working toward a state where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. We remain committed to good governance, transparency, and inclusive development,” he stated.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s focus on fulfilling campaign promises, emphasizing that governance would not be derailed by legal distractions. “We are committed to serving the people of Edo State with dedication and integrity,” he added.
