The Ekiti State Executive Council has sanctioned ₦4.15 billion for an array of projects aimed at improving infrastructure, agriculture, and education. The approvals were disclosed by the Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, in a statement released in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, following the SEC meeting held on August 26.
A significant portion of the budget, ₦2.71 billion, has been allocated to the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation for the rehabilitation of the De-Head to Faglo, Basiri Junction Road in Ado Ekiti. This project is expected to alleviate traffic congestion, boost socio-economic activities, and enhance security in the area. The road rehabilitation is slated for completion within 12 months.
In addition to road infrastructure, the SEC approved ₦701 million for the comprehensive renovation of the State House of Assembly Complex and the House of Assembly Service Commission building. This renovation, contracted to ClemCharles Nigeria Limited, aims to modernize the facilities to support effective legislative and administrative functions. The project is expected to be completed in 12 weeks.
Furthering its commitment to agricultural development, the state government has earmarked ₦229 million for the procurement of tractors and other farm machinery. The equipment, which includes various models of tractors, ploughs, and harrows, is intended to support local farmers and enhance agricultural productivity. The procurement, awarded to AGCOMS International Trading Limited, is expected to be finalized within four weeks.
Additionally, the government has approved ₦177.9 million for the partial clearing of 325 hectares of land to support the ‘Youths in Agriculture’ program. This initiative aims to empower young farmers across several local government areas, including Ikere, Emure, and Moba.
Finally, the SEC ratified a ₦329.4 million contract for the construction of a 100-bed hostel at the Command Secondary School, Isan Ekiti. The hostel, to be completed within 12 weeks, is part of the state’s effort to ensure full boarding facilities at the school, following a Memorandum of Understanding with the Nigerian Army.
