Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has commissioned the 6.475-kilometre Amanyam–Mbiaso Road in Ikot Ekpene, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to infrastructure projects aimed at improving residents’ quality of life.
The road was commissioned on Thursday at Amanyam, Ikot Ekpene, as part of activities marking the state’s 39th anniversary.
Speaking at the event, Eno said his administration was focused on development and improving living conditions rather than engaging in unnecessary political activities.
“Whatever developmental efforts that we are putting in place are tailored towards the overall benefit and improved living conditions of our people. We don’t play politics with the welfare of our citizenry,” he said.
The governor announced plans for additional projects in the area, including the Ikot Ekpene International Market, Compassionate Homes, primary healthcare centres and other road projects.
Eno also commended the Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Aniefiok Nkom, for implementing people-oriented projects. He described similar initiatives by local government chairmen across the state as encouraging and evidence of the benefits of local government autonomy.
Giving an overview of the road, the Commissioner for Works, Eno Ibanga, said the 6.475-kilometre single-carriageway has an eight-metre width and 12.95 kilometres of side drains.
Ibanga described the road as a development corridor linking Amanyam, Ifuho, Ibong, Ikot Udoe and Mbiaso communities. He added that the project was closely supervised to ensure quality, durability and compliance with required standards.
Nkom commended Governor Eno for his developmental projects in Ikot Ekpene, particularly the ongoing International Market, hospital project and access roads.
“You have done so much in and for Ikot Ekpene. Currently, you have four projects to commission in Ikot Ekpene. I want to tell you that we are very happy with you,” Nkom said.
