Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, on Tuesday held a closed-door meeting with the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, at his residence in Ibadan amid rising political tensions in Oyo State.
The visit comes against the backdrop of speculations over alleged impeachment and dethronement plots, as well as reported friction involving Governor Seyi Makinde and the traditional institution—claims that have been publicly denied by all parties.
Sources said the meeting was held behind closed doors, with no official details released on the agenda of discussions.
The development follows recent allegations by Fayose accusing the state government of allegedly plotting against the monarch, a claim that has generated controversy across political and traditional circles in the state.
Although the state government and other stakeholders have denied any such plot, the issue has continued to fuel political tension involving the executive, the legislature, and the traditional institution.
Meanwhile, lawmakers in the state issued a statement reaffirming their support for Governor Makinde, instead of proceeding with their scheduled plenary session.
In a separate clarification, the Olubadan’s palace dismissed rumours linking the monarch to any impeachment plot, stressing that the traditional ruler has no constitutional authority to remove a sitting governor and does not engage in partisan politics.
Similarly, Florence Ajimobi also denied allegations linking her to any attempt to influence the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, through inducements.
