A coalition of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) has come out strongly in defense of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, rejecting recent corruption allegations as a politically motivated campaign aimed at undermining President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The coalition, representing community advocates and development watchdogs, described the claims of asset concealment, illicit enrichment, and fund diversion as baseless, asserting that they are recycled attacks from detractors envious of Wike’s achievements.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja, Dr. Philips Ayuba, Executive Coordinator of the FCT CSOs, said: “These accusations are a deliberate assault by President Tinubu’s detractors—agents of retrogression who fear the monumental progress Wike has brought to the FCT. His asset declarations are open for scrutiny, and every project and expenditure under his leadership is meticulously documented and audited.”
The CSOs highlighted Wike’s infrastructure initiatives, improved security, and enhanced education programs, which they say have elevated Abuja as a model capital. They called on anti-corruption agencies, including the EFCC, ICPC, and CCB, to resist political pressure and focus on genuine cases of corruption rather than unsubstantiated claims.
Dr. Ayuba dismissed allegations by figures such as Senator Ireti Kingibe regarding land allocations and foreign assets as personal vendettas lacking evidence. He added that Wike’s lawful investments predate his ministerial role and that the coalition had mobilized over 12,000 signatures in support of him.
“The FCT’s transformation under Wike—better roads, safer streets, empowered communities—mirrors President Tinubu’s vision for a renewed Nigeria,” Ayuba said. “We will not allow faceless detractors to tarnish this legacy. Our coalition will hold town halls across the FCT to amplify the truth and ensure Wike’s achievements shine brighter than these baseless accusations.”
The CSOs affirmed that Wike’s leadership aligns with the government’s commitment to equitable development, urging Nigerians to reject what they called politically motivated lies and celebrate the minister’s contributions to the nation’s capital.
