By Ayomide Otitoju

The Federal Government has declared December 25 and 26, 2025, as well as January 1, 2026, as public holidays to mark the Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year celebrations.

The announcement was made by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended warm Christmas and New Year greetings to Christians in Nigeria and across the world, as well as to all Nigerians, urging them to reflect on the values of love, peace, humility and sacrifice exemplified by the birth of Jesus Christ.

The minister called on Nigerians, irrespective of religious or ethnic background, to use the festive season to pray for peace, security and the continued progress of the country, while supporting ongoing efforts toward national unity and development.

He also urged citizens to remain law-abiding and security-conscious during the celebrations, and to cooperate with security agencies to ensure a peaceful festive period.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo wished all Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
