The Federal Government has declared Monday and Tuesday as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holiday in a statement on Wednesday, signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.
Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslims across the country on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast and urged them to uphold the values of self-discipline, compassion, generosity, and peace. He emphasized the significance of love, forgiveness, and solidarity in fostering a harmonious society.
The minister also called on Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for the nation’s peace, stability, and prosperity, expressing hope that the festivities would promote unity and cooperation across religious and ethnic lines.
“Dr. Tunji-Ojo encouraged citizens to celebrate safely and responsibly while remembering the less privileged through acts of kindness and charity, in line with the true spirit of Ramadan and Eid,” the statement read.
On behalf of the Federal Government, he extended heartfelt Eid Mubarak wishes to all Muslim faithful, praying that the blessings of the season bring happiness, success, and fulfillment.
Eid-el-Fitr is celebrated by Muslims worldwide following the completion of Ramadan fasting, which lasts either 29 or 30 days.
