FirstBank Launches Naira Visa Debit Card for Cashless Payments

By Ayomide Otitoju

First Bank of Nigeria Limited has launched its Naira Visa Debit Card in partnership with Visa, in a move aimed at expanding access to digital payments and supporting Nigeria’s cashless economy drive.

The bank said the card is designed to provide customers with a reliable payment tool for both domestic and international transactions, enabling use across POS terminals, ATMs and online platforms on Visa’s global network.

It explained that the product is targeted at everyday consumers and is intended to ease the transition from cash-based transactions to electronic payments across retail, utility and e-commerce channels.

The initiative aligns with Nigeria’s broader push toward a cashless economy, reinforced by Central Bank of Nigeria policies encouraging the adoption of electronic payment systems.

Speaking at the launch, FirstBank’s Group Executive for eBusiness and Retail Products, Chuma Ezirim, said the card would enhance convenience, security and financial inclusion for customers.

He noted that the product was designed to simplify everyday transactions such as shopping, bill payments and online purchases while supporting the national digital payment agenda.

Visa’s Vice President and Cluster Head for West Africa, Andrew Uaboi, described the partnership as a step toward strengthening Nigeria’s payments ecosystem, saying the new card expands access to secure and reliable payment options for consumers.

He added that the collaboration reflects Visa’s commitment to building a comprehensive card portfolio for the Nigerian market in partnership with FirstBank.

The Naira Visa Debit Card further expands FirstBank’s existing Visa offerings, which already include credit and premium lifestyle cards, ensuring broader coverage across customer segments.

The product is available to eligible FirstBank account holders at branches nationwide.
