No fewer than 8,433 delegates are set to attend the 2026 national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at Eagle Square, scheduled for March 27–28, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced on Thursday.
Speaking at a briefing with journalists at the Transcorp Hilton, Idris, who also serves as Co-Chairman of the convention’s Media and Publicity Committee, detailed plans for logistics, communications, and the party’s messaging ahead of the event. He urged committee members to work in unity to ensure smooth coordination and effective communication.
“A lot of sacrifice is expected from all, in line with the party’s vision for a united and disciplined approach to communicating to Nigerians,” Idris said, stressing the importance of upholding internal democratic values and reflecting the principles of the party’s leadership.
The minister described the convention as a key milestone for strengthening APC’s internal structures and democratic processes. Party leadership has confirmed that national leaders will be selected through a consensus approach, while the handling of elective positions during primaries will be determined later, taking local political dynamics into account, according to APC Assistant Secretary for Media and Publicity, Mary Ikoku.
Thursday’s meeting at the Transcorp Hilton brought together governors, the leadership of the APC 2026 National Convention Central Coordination Committee, including its chairman and vice chairman, as well as other key stakeholders. Notable attendees included the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo; Minister of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga; and Special Adviser on Public Communication and Orientation, Sunday Dare.
The convention will empower APC members to elect national executives who will lead the party into the 2027 general elections. The newly elected officers will also oversee the conduct of primaries that will produce candidates for the presidential, governorship, House of Assembly, and National Assembly contests.
