Ikeja Electric Blames Low Lagos Power Supply on Gas Shortage

By Ayomide Otitoju

Ikeja Electric on Tuesday reported reduced electricity supply across Lagos, citing a nationwide drop in power generation caused by limited gas availability to thermal power plants.

In a statement, the company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Kingsley Okotie, said the shortfall has led to intermittent outages and load shedding, affecting both residential and commercial customers.

“The ongoing reduction in electricity supply is largely due to a nationwide drop in power generation, caused by limited gas supply to thermal power plants,” Okotie said. “This has significantly reduced the energy available on the national grid and, consequently, the allocation to Ikeja Electric and other distribution companies.”

He assured customers that the company remains committed to distributing the limited power efficiently and equitably, while urging patience as efforts continue at the national level to stabilise generation.

The statement follows increasing complaints from Lagos residents and businesses about poor electricity supply.
