An attack on a Jewish settlement in the occupied West Bank on Sunday resulted in the death of an Israeli man, according to Beilinson Hospital. The victim succumbed to injuries after extensive efforts to save his life.
The Israeli military reported that a “terrorist” attacked a civilian in the Kedumim settlement, located in northern West Bank, stole the victim’s weapon, and fled the scene. The deceased was identified as a resident of the settlement, which is situated near the village of Jit.
This incident follows a deadly raid on Jit three days prior, where settlers killed a 23-year-old Palestinian man. Local residents reported that around 100 settlers, armed with knives and firearms, torched vehicles and homes in Jit. The attack has been widely condemned by Israeli officials, as well as by the United States, United Nations, and European countries.
Since Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, violence has escalated in the West Bank. The region, occupied by Israel since 1967 and geographically separated from Gaza, has seen significant unrest. Settlements in the West Bank are deemed illegal under international law.
According to AFP, at least 635 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli troops or settlers since October 7. During the same period, Israeli sources report at least 19 Israeli deaths from Palestinian attacks.
