The lawmaker representing Oredo Federal Constituency in Edo State, Hon. Esosa Iyawe, has applauded President Bola Tinubu’s recent overhaul of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) board, describing the move as “timely and strategic” in addressing inefficiencies within the state-owned energy giant.
President Tinubu, in a significant leadership shake-up, appointed Bayo Ojulari as the new Group Chief Executive Officer and Ahmadu Kida as the Board Chairman of the NNPC, among other appointments.
Reacting to the development in a statement issued on Monday, Hon. Iyawe, an engineer-turned-lawmaker, said the reconstitution signals the president’s commitment to transforming Nigeria’s energy sector for long-term national benefit.
“I wholeheartedly commend President Bola Tinubu for his timely and strategic decision to restructure the leadership of the NNPC. This bold move reflects a deep commitment to reform, transparency, and long-term sustainability in Nigeria’s energy sector,” he stated.
According to Iyawe, the reshuffle is expected to enhance operational efficiency, attract investment, restore investor confidence, and promote diversification of Nigeria’s gas market — all of which are key pillars for economic growth and energy security.
He further emphasized that the new leadership team is well-positioned to deliver meaningful reforms and improve the NNPC’s contribution to national development.
“To the newly appointed NNPC leadership, this is not just a call to duty; it is a historic opportunity to reset the trajectory of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry. Nigerians are looking to you to embrace innovation, uphold transparency, and ensure that the nation’s vast energy resources translate into tangible benefits for all citizens,” he said.
Hon. Iyawe also urged the appointees to view their roles as a responsibility that transcends performance metrics, noting that their success would help rebuild public trust, eliminate systemic inefficiencies, and foster a resilient energy sector capable of supporting job creation and sustainable growth.
“The success of this team will be a defining legacy for this administration and a cornerstone for Nigeria’s economic revival,” he concluded.
