Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has called on Directors of Local Government (DLGs) and Treasurers to maintain the principles of local government autonomy and adhere to professional ethics in their duties. He emphasized the importance of their roles in fostering transparency, accountability, and development at the grassroots level.
Governor Ododo made this statement during an interactive session with the forum of DLGs and Treasurers at the Government House in Lokoja, urging the administrators to view themselves as vital links between the government and the people. He noted that their performance would strengthen the relationship between the government and local communities, enhancing local administration.
Commending the resilience and productivity of the DLGs and Treasurers, the governor stressed the critical need for accurate record-keeping and ethical conduct, particularly among public sector accountants. He also called for unity among officials, urging them to collaborate with the state’s Accountant General, Habiba Onumoko, to ensure the delivery of democratic dividends to the grassroots.
In his remarks, Kogi State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar, praised Governor Ododo’s leadership, highlighting his commitment to transparency and accountability. He assured the governor of the legislature’s continued support in bringing governance closer to the people.
Kogi State Accountant General, Habiba Onumoko, in her welcome address, lauded Governor Ododo’s contributions to grassroots development, youth and women empowerment, and employment opportunities. She described him as a leader of impact and humility.
Alhaji Aliyu Musa, chairman of the DLGs forum, expressed gratitude to Governor Ododo for approving a ₦72,500 minimum wage for workers and for initiatives that have improved the welfare of civil servants in the state. He also commended the Accountant General for her professionalism and guidance in public administration
