The Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has declared Monday, October 6, 2025, a public holiday for teachers across the state in celebration of World Teachers’ Day 2025.
The announcement was contained in a statement by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Lawal Olohungbebe, who said the gesture was to honour the “invaluable contributions” of teachers to the development of education in the state and the nation at large.
Confirming the directive, the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Communications, Ibraheem AbdulLateef, explained that the holiday applies to both public and private school teachers.
Olohungbebe commended teachers for their resilience, sacrifice, and commitment to shaping future generations, describing them as “critical stakeholders in advancing human progress and national development.”
“Teachers play a central role in nation-building and are instrumental in shaping the moral and intellectual foundation of society. They embody patience, dedication, and strength — values crucial in raising future generations,” he said.
World Teachers’ Day 2025, which falls on Sunday, October 5, is themed “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession.” The theme emphasizes the importance of teamwork among educators and collaboration beyond the classroom to strengthen the teaching profession globally.
The annual celebration is observed worldwide to recognise educators’ efforts, address the challenges they face, and advocate greater support for the teaching profession.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, also joined in commemorating the occasion. In a statement shared on her verified social media page, she hailed teachers as “true heroes shaping minds, nurturing dreams, and guiding generations.”
She called for concerted efforts to address the global shortage of teachers, stressing that the world must do more to empower and support educators.
