The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with the National Social Safety-Net Coordinating Office (NASSCO), has commenced a three-day training program for field personnel to update the National Social Register (NSR) using the National Identification Number (NIN) for improved social intervention delivery.
The training, tagged “Integration of the NIN with the NSR Update,” began over the weekend at the Dover Hotel, Ikeja.
According to the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, Mrs. Olayinka Ojo, the updated register will ensure that beneficiaries receive a unique identity, promoting social inclusion and transparency.
“As of February 2025, the Lagos State Single Social Register (LASSR) contains 688,759 poor and vulnerable households, covering 2,681,507 individuals,” Ojo stated.
She outlined the primary objectives of the training, including certifying trainees as front-end enrollment partners with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to facilitate NIN enrollment and verification. The initiative aligns with the federal government’s goal of linking social intervention beneficiaries to unique identities, reducing duplication, and enhancing transparency.
The Lagos State Coordinator of NIMC, Mr. Olumide Aremu, emphasized the importance of data harmonization for tracking and assessing government interventions.
“This initiative will help the government analyze and track the real impact of programs on citizens, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring interventions reach the right people,” Aremu said.
National Coordinator of NASSCO, Mrs. Funmi Olotu, stressed the role of NIN enrollment in ensuring accurate data collection for effective social intervention delivery.
The Lagos State Government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring seamless implementation, with logistics and infrastructure in place across all local government areas (LGAs) and local council development areas (LCDAs) for efficient data integration.
