Croatian football legend Luka Modric has signed a one-year contract with AC Milan, bringing his glittering European career to Italy as he looks to remain competitive at the highest level.
The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner confirmed the move on Wednesday in an interview with AC Milan TV, stating, “I’m happy to be here. I wanted to continue playing at the top level, and when Milan came calling, it was an easy decision.”
Modric, who turns 40 in September, leaves Real Madrid after a 12-year spell that saw him lift six UEFA Champions League trophies, four La Liga titles, and two Copa del Rey medals.
“Milan must aim for the highest goals—titles, trophies, competing with the best,” said Modric, who joins the seven-time European champions as they seek to rebound from a disappointing eighth-place finish in Serie A last season.
He added that his motivation remains undimmed: “The key is love for the game. That fire still burns in me. I always want more.”
Modric also shared personal memories of Milan from his youth, noting that the club had always been close to his heart. “When I was a kid, Milan was my favourite team. My idol, Zvonimir Boban, played here—it’s an honour to follow in his footsteps.”
The deal includes an option for a second season, pending performance and mutual agreement.
