Fatou Diop, Legal, Contracts and Local Content Manager, and Malcolm Watson, Managing Director of MODEC Senegal, will serve as speakers at the MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 conference and exhibition scheduled for December 8–10 in Dakar.
The experts are expected to provide insights into Senegal’s first offshore oil development and outline the operational, technical and local content strategies underpinning the project.
MODEC Senegal is a key partner in the development of the Sangomar oil field, operated by Woodside Energy with participation from the national oil company, Petrosen. The field — located 100km south of Dakar in water depths of about 780 metres — delivered first oil in June 2024. The first phase targets an estimated 230 million barrels of crude.
The company manages the full lifecycle of the FPSO Léopold Sédar Senghor, including engineering support, construction oversight, and long-term operations and maintenance. The converted very large crude carrier has capacity for 100,000 barrels of oil per day, 130 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, 145,000 barrels of water injection, and storage for 1.3 million barrels of crude.
MODEC’s contribution includes a complex turret mooring system supplied through SOFEC, offshore commissioning, and a 10-year operations and maintenance contract with potential extensions. The company is also investing in local capacity through training programmes and partnerships — including with Axess Group — aimed at strengthening Senegal’s engineering capabilities.
Energy Capital & Power’s Events and Project Director, Sandra Jeque, said MODEC’s participation underscores the region’s growing offshore sector and will offer attendees valuable insights into Senegal’s landmark offshore project.
