MTN Boosts Public Engagement on Data Usage

By Ayomide Otitoju

MTN Nigeria has expanded its public engagement on data transparency following the conclusion of its Data on Trial initiative, with the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Karl Toriola, leading a nationwide media campaign to deepen customer understanding of data usage and network operations.

The media tour commenced on Thursday, July 2, 2026, with appearances on TVC News and Arise TV, where Toriola discussed data consumption, transparency initiatives, network investment and the future of MTN’s operations in Nigeria.

During the interviews, he explained that mobile networks have finite capacity, noting that excessive data traffic can affect service quality for all users.

Toriola also disclosed that MTN Nigeria invested ₦390 billion in capital expenditure during the first quarter of 2026, exceeding the company’s ₦359 billion profit after tax for the same period. He said the investment reflects MTN’s continued commitment to strengthening network infrastructure and expanding digital connectivity across the country.

Addressing concerns over telecom tariffs, the MTN CEO stated that there are no plans for an immediate price increase, adding that any future tariff review would depend on prevailing economic conditions and the cost of maintaining network infrastructure.

The company said the media engagements are part of ongoing efforts to promote greater transparency, improve customer awareness of data usage and sustain conversations around Nigeria’s evolving digital ecosystem.Copyright TRUSTAFRICA NEWS.
