NBC Leads Apapa Environmental Walk for World Clean-Up Day

The Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) Ltd., a member of the Coca-Cola Hellenic Beverage Company (CCHBC), has reinforced its commitment to sustainability with an environmental awareness walk in Apapa, Lagos, to mark this year’s World Clean-Up Day.

The exercise brought together volunteers from NBC’s Ikeja Plant, Head Office at Iddo House, and its recycling facility in Apapa. They were joined by officials of Apapa Local Government, community leaders, and youth groups to engage residents on the importance of proper waste management and recycling.

The walk, which started at Liverpool Roundabout and ended at the NBC rPET Hub in Apapa, provided a platform to sensitize the community on environmental stewardship and the economic opportunities in recycling.

NBC’s Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Director, Soromidayo George, described the event as part of the company’s Waste-to-Wealth drive, stressing that recycling goes beyond environmental benefits to also create economic value. “Our employees who volunteered today are sustainability champions, and together with the community, we are building a cleaner and greener Apapa,” she said.

Since launching its Apapa recycling plant in January 2025, NBC has continued to contribute to Lagos State’s green economy, creating jobs and serving as a model for the recycling sector.

Community leaders welcomed the initiative, with Samuel Idoko, Youth Coordinator of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Apapa Chapter, noting its alignment with youth-led recycling campaigns. Similarly, Jide Santos, Chairman of the Azare Community Development Association, commended NBC’s sustained presence and impact in Apapa.

The initiative underscores NBC’s approach to sustainability as a shared responsibility among corporations, governments, and local communities.
