The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has fined RwandAir ₦15 million for violating consumer protection regulations over a passenger’s damaged baggage.
NCAA spokesperson Michael Achimugu disclosed this in a post on his personal X handle on Friday.
He said the sanction was imposed after the airline failed to resolve the passenger’s baggage complaint within the stipulated timeframe.
Under Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023, airlines are required to provide compensation and other remedies for passengers affected by baggage-related issues.
In addition to the fine, the NCAA directed RwandAir to replace the damaged bag and pay the passenger $170 as first-need compensation.
The authority said the sanction underscores the need for airlines to promptly address passenger complaints and comply with consumer protection regulations.
