The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has issued a stern warning to international airlines over the deportation of Nigerian passengers after partial completion of their journeys.
In a statement on Thursday, NCAA Director of Consumer Protection and Public Affairs, Michael Achimugu, condemned the practice, citing its negative impact on passengers and the country’s aviation reputation.
“Passengers should not be denied entry or forced to return to Nigeria after reaching transit stops due to visa and travel restrictions,” Achimugu said.
The NCAA emphasized that airlines are legally required to inform travelers of potential entry restrictions before issuing tickets. Under the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations 2023 (Part 19.21.1.1), airlines must verify passenger documentation before departure to prevent unnecessary disruptions.
Effective immediately, airlines found violating these regulations will face penalties, including fines and potential suspension of flight operations.
“The NCAA expects full compliance from all airlines to maintain professionalism and protect Nigerian travelers,” the statement added.
