Nigerian Air Force Denies Aircraft Detention in Burkina Faso

By Ayomide Otitoju

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has clarified misleading reports suggesting that one of its aircraft and crew were detained by Burkina Faso authorities.

In a statement issued on December 9, 2025, the NAF explained that a C-130 aircraft on a ferry mission to Portugal on December 8 made a precautionary landing in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso after the crew detected a technical issue shortly after departing Lagos. The landing was carried out in line with standard safety procedures and international aviation protocols.

The Air Force confirmed that the crew is safe and received cordial treatment from the host authorities. Plans to resume the mission are already in place.

The NAF emphasized its continued commitment to operational safety, adherence to aviation standards, and the protection of its personnel, while fulfilling its constitutional duties.
