The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a fresh three-day weather forecast, warning of thunderstorms, strong winds, and varying intensities of rainfall across the country from Monday, July 21 to Wednesday, July 23, 2025.
According to the forecast released on Sunday via NiMet’s official X handle, the Northern, Central, and Southern regions are expected to experience unsettled weather conditions, including early morning thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rains.
On Monday, early thunderstorms are anticipated in Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Kaduna states. The Central region, including the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Nasarawa, Niger, and Kogi, will see cloudy mornings with increased likelihood of storms later in the day.
NiMet also projected that by Tuesday, moderate rainfall would occur across FCT, Kwara, Niger, and Plateau during the afternoon and evening, following cloudy morning conditions.
By Wednesday, thunderstorms and rain are expected to hit Katsina, Kano, Bauchi, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, Jigawa, Borno, Kebbi, and Kaduna. Southern states including Enugu, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, and Rivers will witness morning rains followed by heavier rainfall later in the day.
The agency warned that strong winds may precede the rain, especially in areas prone to thunderstorms. It advised the public to take precautionary measures such as securing loose objects, disconnecting electrical appliances during storms, and avoiding tall trees.
Airline operators were urged to obtain airport-specific weather updates for flight planning, while residents were encouraged to stay informed through NiMet’s official platforms and website: www.nimet.gov.ng.
