The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced that it will roll out its contactless passport application system in Europe, the United Kingdom, and Ireland on Friday, February 7, 2025.
NIS spokesman, AS Akinlabi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, highlighting the service’s commitment to improving passport processing for Nigerians abroad.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in Abuja, NIS Comptroller General Kemi Nanna Nandap said the initiative would enable Nigerians in the diaspora to apply for and renew passports remotely.
“This initiative will allow Nigerians to apply for and renew their passports online from the comfort of their homes,” Nandap stated.
The expansion follows the successful launch of the contactless system in Canada on November 5, 2024. The NIS emphasized that the application, available on Google Play Store under “NIS Mobile,” will allow users to renew passports without requiring biometric enrollment at passport centers.
Dabiri-Erewa hailed the move as a significant step towards improving efficiency and convenience for Nigerians abroad.
“The launch of the contactless passport application solution in Europe is a major milestone in enhancing travel document management for Nigerians in the diaspora,” she said. “NiDCOM will continue to support, monitor, and collaborate with the NIS to ensure its success.”
The NIS reaffirmed its commitment to innovative and efficient service delivery, ensuring Nigerians worldwide have seamless access to passport renewal services.
