NNPC Foundation Advances Healthcare Initiatives Across Nigeria

By Ayomide Otitoju

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Foundation is making strides in healthcare through targeted intervention programs aimed at improving the well-being of Nigerians. From free cancer screenings to eye care and medical outreach, the Foundation’s efforts reflect its commitment to fostering a healthier population as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

Cancer Awareness and Screening
The fight against cancer remains a key focus for the NNPC Foundation. Through its nationwide campaign tagged “Cancer Awareness and ZSX Screening,” the Foundation has provided free screenings for breast, cervical, and prostate cancers to over 3,441 people. Screening centers were established in Kaduna, Rivers, Ondo, Benue, Imo, and Gombe States, delivering not only diagnostic services but also health education and consultations to empower individuals with preventive care knowledge.

Managing Director of NNPC Foundation Ltd, Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe, emphasized the importance of early detection:

“This campaign is about more than just screening; it’s about saving lives, building awareness, and creating pathways to preventive care for Nigerians who need it most.”

She added that the Foundation aims to address the gaps in healthcare access that contribute to late-stage cancer diagnoses in Nigeria.

Broader Health Interventions
In addition to cancer initiatives, the NNPC Foundation has conducted medical outreach programs across the country. Earlier this year, 450 residents of Garki, Abuja, received health checkups, treatments, and medical consumables. Similarly, a glaucoma screening exercise at Utako Market benefited 291 traders.

The Foundation also partnered with the Nigerian Cardiac Society to provide free heart surgeries for 40 patients suffering from various cardiac conditions.

Humanitarian Efforts and Support for Vulnerable Groups
Beyond healthcare, the Foundation extended humanitarian aid to victims of flooding in Borno State, donating over 20 trucks of food, water, medical supplies, and sanitary products. Support for vulnerable groups included the donation of 60 mattresses and dental accessories to Ile-Ife Special School for Children with Disabilities.

Commitment to National Prosperity
NNPC Ltd. recognizes that “health is wealth” and continues to channel resources toward creating a healthy population. Its Foundation’s activities demonstrate a holistic approach to national prosperity, complementing the company’s role as an energy provider with a robust focus on community well-being.

Through these initiatives, the NNPC Foundation underscores its dedication to building a healthier and more equitable Nigeria.
