NNPC Limited has commissioned and handed over three rehabilitated 100-bed capacity wards to the National Orthopaedic Hospital Igbobi, reinforcing its commitment to social impact and healthcare development.
The project, executed by the NNPC Foundation Ltd./Gte., involved the comprehensive upgrade of Wards G, H, and J, including the installation of new beds and a central medical gas system to enhance patient care. The intervention also covered roofing and ceiling replacements, upgrades of electrical and mechanical systems, and installation of new vinyl flooring.
Before the rehabilitation, the wards were in poor condition, limiting their usability and constraining the hospital’s capacity to admit patients.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, Bashir Bayo Ojulari, represented by Chief Financial Officer Adedapo Segun, said the company’s definition of profitability extends beyond revenue generation to include measurable social impact.
Managing Director of the NNPC Foundation, Emmanuella Arukwe, noted that the intervention strengthens a long-standing medical institution and aligns with national healthcare priorities.
Medical Director of the hospital, Wakeel Lawal, expressed appreciation for the upgrade, describing it as a transformative intervention that has restored the wards to international standards and renewed hope for improved patient care.
The event was attended by senior NNPC officials, including Executive Vice President, Business Services, Sophia Mbakwe, as well as community representatives such as Rodiyallahu Alabi Yunusa, who represented the Oba of Somolu, Kazeem Bashua.
