The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has congratulated Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) on the successful completion of the Awodi-07 appraisal and exploration well, located in the shallow offshore western Niger Delta.
Drilled as part of the NNPC Ltd/CNL Joint Venture’s ongoing efforts to assess hydrocarbon potential, the Awodi-07 well began operations in late November 2025 and concluded in mid-December 2025. All drilling activities were carried out safely and in strict compliance with regulatory and operational standards. Comprehensive testing, logging, and data acquisition confirmed significant hydrocarbon presence across multiple reservoir zones, marking a key milestone for the joint venture.
NNPC Ltd’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, commended Chevron for its operational excellence, technical expertise, and value delivery. He said, “The success of the Awodi-07 well reinforces the strength of the NNPC Ltd/CNL Joint Venture and our commitment to responsibly growing Nigeria’s hydrocarbon reserves, enhancing energy security, and delivering sustainable value to Nigerians.”
Mr. Udy Ntia, Executive Vice President, Upstream, NNPC Ltd, described the discovery as a testament to sustained collaboration, technical rigor, and a stable operating environment. He noted, “This achievement underscores the importance of disciplined exploration, strong partnerships, and the positive impact of reforms under the Petroleum Industry Act. We look forward to working with Chevron to advance this opportunity toward development and monetisation.”
Under the joint venture, Chevron holds a 40 per cent stake while NNPC Ltd owns 60 per cent, pooling resources and expertise to develop Nigeria’s oil and gas assets. The partnership aims to raise oil production to approximately 146,000 barrels per day, supporting government revenue, creating jobs, and boosting national energy supply.
