The 14th NNPC Ltd Sports Fiesta is scheduled to begin on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, as the company intensifies preparations to maintain its dominance at next year’s Nigeria Oil & Gas Industry Games (NOGIG).
In a statement to TheForesight in Lagos, NNPC Ltd’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andrew Odeh, said the biennial event—held under the theme “Energy in Motion: Compete, Connect & Celebrate”—will feature 450 athletes, reflecting the company’s commitment to employee wellness and improved productivity.
The one-week tournament will run until Saturday, December 6, and will feature teams from NNPC Ltd’s six operational zones, grouped to reflect the company’s core values:
- Team Integrity (Port Harcourt/Benin)
- Team Excellence (Lagos/Warri)
- Team Sustainability (Abuja/Kaduna)
Athletes will compete in 13 sporting categories, including football, basketball, volleyball, lawn tennis, table tennis, badminton, squash, scrabble, chess, 8-ball pool, swimming, athletics and golf.
Odeh noted that the fiesta will also serve as a talent-identification platform for selecting athletes who will represent NNPC Ltd at the 20th Nigeria Oil & Gas Industry Games in February 2026. NNPC Ltd will seek to defend its long-standing title as overall champion.
The company has historically dominated the NOGIG Games, which include teams from international oil companies and key agencies under the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources. At the 2024 edition, also held at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, NNPC Ltd emerged overall winner with 50 medals: 20 gold, 9 silver and 21 bronze.
