The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, has announced that corps members will begin receiving an increased allowance of ₦77,000 starting February 2025.
Speaking to the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II corps members in Katsina State on Thursday, Ahmed confirmed that the increment has been approved by the Federal Government and is incorporated into the 2025 budget. However, the implementation is contingent on the passage of the budget.
“The Federal Government has already approved the increment of your allowance. This is no longer news; we have the approval in our hands. What we are waiting for is just the passage of the budget,” Ahmed stated.
He further explained that since January has already ended, corps members can expect to receive the revised ₦77,000 stipend once the budget is passed in February, replacing the current ₦33,000 allowance.
Corps Members Urged to Uphold Discipline and Community Service
Brigadier General Ahmed also advised corps members to uphold discipline and avoid any form of misconduct that could jeopardize their future. He emphasized the importance of diligence, honesty, perseverance, and faith in God as key to a successful life.
Additionally, he urged corps members to respect the cultures and traditions of their host communities and to integrate seamlessly into their new environments. He encouraged them to contribute meaningfully through personal or group Community Development Service (CDS) projects aimed at improving the living standards of their host communities.
