The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has celebrated a legal victory after the Court of Appeal unanimously affirmed the eligibility of its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, in the upcoming September 21, 2024, Edo State Governorship election. The court’s decision validates Ighodalo’s candidacy, securing his place in the race, according to a statement released by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba.
In its ruling, the Court of Appeal confirmed the authenticity of Ighodalo’s INEC Voter’s Card, dismissing claims raised by the All Progressives Congress (APC) as baseless. Ologunagba described the judgement as a “triumph of truth” over the “falsehood and propaganda” propagated by the APC.
“The litigation against Dr. Asue Ighodalo was found to be without merit and based on flawed assumptions,” the PDP said, adding that the numerous legal challenges posed by the APC were merely attempts to distract both Ighodalo and the people of Edo State.
Ologunagba further criticized the APC’s candidate, Monday Okpebholo, calling him “uninspiring” and stating that the APC resorted to court cases because it knew its candidate could not match the PDP’s Ighodalo at the polls. He also urged the APC and its leaders, including former governor Adams Oshiomhole, to consider withdrawing from the race.
The PDP concluded by thanking the people of Edo State for their support and called on them to remain vigilant as the party works towards victory in the upcoming election.
