As part of activities marking Global Money Week (GMW) 2025, Polaris Bank held a dynamic financial literacy session at NANA College, Warri, aimed at equipping students with essential money management skills, including saving, budgeting, and investing.
The session, which attracted an enthusiastic audience of students and staff, was led by Mr. Andrew Komori, Group Head at Polaris Bank, who represented the bank’s Managing Director/CEO. Komori delivered an engaging and educational lecture focused on empowering young people to make informed financial decisions early in life.
“Financial literacy is a foundational life skill,” Komori told the students. “It goes beyond managing expenses — it’s about avoiding unnecessary debt, building wealth, and ultimately securing your future.” He broke down the core differences between saving for short-term needs and investing for long-term goals, highlighting opportunities such as stocks and mutual funds.
Komori urged students to begin cultivating both saving and investing habits early, describing them as critical to achieving long-term financial independence. “Financial freedom isn’t a stroke of luck,” he noted. “It’s the result of consistent earning, disciplined saving, and smart investing.”
The interactive session allowed students to ask questions and share personal stories, generating vibrant discussions around practical money choices. Komori responded with real-life examples and tailored advice, deepening the students’ understanding of how to apply financial principles.
The school’s Principal, Mrs. Madamedon, expressed appreciation for the initiative. “We’re grateful to Polaris Bank for investing in the future of our students,” she said. “The knowledge shared today will benefit them for a lifetime.”
Vice Principal, Mrs. Onakufe, echoed the sentiment, adding, “The session has already sparked important conversations among our students about financial decision-making as they prepare for adulthood.”
This event is part of Polaris Bank’s nationwide campaign to promote financial literacy among young Nigerians. Other schools benefiting from the initiative include Excel International School, Damaturu; Baptist High School, Ede; and several others across the country.
Global Money Week is a global initiative dedicated to raising awareness among young people about the importance of financial education, entrepreneurship, and responsible financial behavior. Polaris Bank’s participation aligns with this year’s theme, “Think Before You Follow – Wise Money Tomorrow,” underscoring the bank’s commitment to fostering a financially responsible generation.
