The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has recorded major breakthroughs in two high-profile cases of human trafficking and kidnapping, underscoring its commitment to dismantling criminal networks nationwide.
On 30 July 2025, operatives of the Enugu State Police Command, while on routine patrol along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway, intercepted 30-year-old Raymond Sunday Wonna, a suspected human trafficker, and rescued two female victims — 18-year-old Miracle Ogar and 16-year-old Angela Kingsley.
Investigations revealed that the victims were lured from Ogoja, Cross River State, under false promises of employment in Ghana. Wonna allegedly planned to take them to work in a restaurant said to be owned by his partner. Police reports also indicate that the suspect attempted to sexually assault the victims while lodging them in a hotel. The victims have since been reunited with their families, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the trafficking ring.
In a separate operation on 13 August 2025, Taraba State Police Command operatives, acting on intelligence and in collaboration with local security outfits, stormed Mahadi Forest in Gassol LGA and arrested two suspected kidnappers — 20-year-old Yahaya Umar and 47-year-old Mohammed Umar. The duo, found in possession of an AK-47 rifle, allegedly belong to a syndicate linked to multiple attacks in Plateau and Taraba States.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the officers involved and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to citizen safety. He directed a thorough investigation to ensure the prosecution of all suspects.
The NPF urged the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely intelligence to law enforcement agencies.
