A widespread power outage has affected several embassies and residential estates in Abuja, following a technical fault on a feeder supplying the area, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) confirmed.
Among the diplomatic missions impacted are the embassies of the United States, Turkey, Cuba, Ethiopia, Iran, Liberia, Egypt, and Japan, along with surrounding areas.
Several residential communities, including Brains & Hammer City Estate, Today Estate, Dape District, Katsina Estate, Paradise Estate, Ochacho Estate, Kafe District, American Embassy Estate, and parts of Gwarinpa, have also been affected by the outage.
Restoration Efforts Underway
AEDC assured residents and businesses that its technical team is working diligently to restore electricity as soon as possible.
“We regret the inconvenience caused by this outage and appreciate our customers’ patience as we work to resolve the issue,” AEDC said in a statement.
Planned Maintenance to Affect Prepaid Customers
In a separate announcement, AEDC notified customers of a scheduled maintenance operation on Sunday, March 23, 2025, which will temporarily disrupt vending services for prepaid customers.
“During this brief window, prepaid customers may experience momentary interruptions when recharging their meters or accessing vending platforms,” the company stated. Normal service will resume immediately after maintenance is completed.
AEDC emphasized that the activity is part of ongoing efforts to enhance service reliability and efficiency, apologizing for any inconvenience caused.
Customers are advised to take necessary precautions as the company works to restore power and improve overall service delivery.
