Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced that several prominent former leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and key supporters of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar have resolved to support President Bola Tinubu.
The political figures include former PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus; former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Austin Opara; former Rivers State Governor, Celestine Omehia; and former Minister of Transport, Abiye Sekibo.
Governor Fubara made the disclosure on Thursday during the New Year banquet organised by the Rivers State Government at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Port Harcourt. He acknowledged the presence of the political leaders at the event, noting that their decision effectively dispelled allegations and political blackmail suggesting he was aligning with forces opposed to the President.
Reaffirming his political stance, Fubara said he remained resolute despite ongoing challenges, adding that his faith in God continued to give him confidence and strength. He said it was on that foundation that his administration would fully realise its governance objectives in Rivers State.
The governor dismissed criticisms of his leadership approach, stating that he clearly understood the political terrain and had put measures in place to navigate it successfully. Quoting Julius Caesar, he said those who lacked understanding often resorted to “barking” when unable to interpret unfolding events.
Fubara declared that 2026 would mark what he described as the “complete liberation” of Rivers State, assuring that all the goals set by his administration would be achieved. He expressed confidence that those who stood with him would ultimately be fulfilled and proud of their decisions.
He further noted that although his administration had faced numerous challenges, it had emerged stronger, adding that battles he could not directly confront had strengthened his resolve. The governor said he had lost nothing and that it was only a matter of time before everything was fully recovered.
Fubara also assured that his administration would never compel anyone to act wrongly, stressing that he harboured no fear and remained confident that every necessary bridge would be crossed when the time comes.
