The Rotaract District 9110 club, Nigeria has commissioned renovated four blocks of toilet at the Home of Destitute, Okobaba, Ebute Metta, Lagos State.
The toilets, according to the club, will provide adequate sanitation and hygiene for the occupants especially considering the needs for sanitation and personal hygiene to the less privileged.
The District Rotaract Representative (DRR), Rotaract Adedeji Windapo, stated that the old pit latrine used by the members of the destitute home exposed them to diseases due to open defecation, hence the need for the renovation.
He added that the new toilet facility is a beacon of hope for the young and olds, most of whom have never seen a water system toilet before, and most importantly will help improve sanitary conditions and prevent the spread of diseases.
“Because we understand the power of cleanliness and personal hygiene, our hope is that by providing this toilet facility, the children of this community will be healthier as the spread of diseases will be reduced.
We call on the Community Heads, matured adults and other members of this community to maintain this toilet facility system and treat it like their own personal property. Understand that this toilet facility is for your own good and a beacon of hope for your convenience. As such, please do not vandalise any part of the facility”, he advised.
The CDA chairman, Okobaba community, Mr Taofeek Balogun, lauded the efforts of the Rotaract club in ensuring hygienic sanitary facility for people of the home of destitute.
He advised the beneficiaries to ensure the good use of the facility so that more can be done for them.
