Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Sunday marked the 74th birthday of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with the distribution of 20,000 food packs and a personalised message to residents across the state.
The food items were distributed during a symbolic event at the De Blue Roof Event Centre, as well as in multiple locations spanning the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
The ceremony attracted top government officials, including the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, and the Special Adviser on Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Tajudeen Afolabi. Beneficiaries included community leaders, youth groups, and residents from various parts of the state.
Distribution also extended to religious centres, including the Chapel of Christ the Light and the Lagos State Central Mosque, ensuring wider reach among Christian and Muslim faithful.
In an open letter read at the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu described President Tinubu as an “extraordinary leader” and urged Lagosians to support his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He noted that while Nigerians have endured the impact of ongoing reforms, the benefits are beginning to emerge, expressing optimism about the country’s future.
The governor also highlighted Tinubu’s legacy as a former governor of Lagos State, crediting his administration with laying the foundation for the state’s economic growth and institutional development.
Speaking at the event, Omotoso described the initiative as a means of enabling Lagos residents to celebrate the President while benefiting from a welfare programme. Afolabi added that the gesture reflected the state government’s commitment to supporting citizens amid current economic realities.
Beneficiaries commended the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful, and offered prayers for the President’s continued leadership and the nation’s progress.
