Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday hosted popular American streamer and internet personality, Kai Cenat, at the Lagos House, Marina.
Cenat, who is on his second visit to Lagos, paid a courtesy visit to the governor, during which he shared his experiences in the state and discussed youth-focused initiatives he plans to implement. The meeting was disclosed in a statement posted on X by the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Jubril A. Gawat.
According to Gawat, Cenat’s visit was part of ongoing efforts to follow up on projects and initiatives targeted at children and young people in Lagos State. He noted that discussions during the meeting centred on education, culture, and community development.
The projects, initially proposed for the Makoko community, were later relocated to Yaba due to structural and environmental concerns.
Cenat expressed admiration for Lagos, describing the city’s energy and creativity as unique. He said Nigeria was the first country where he felt “100 per cent love,” adding that the reception he received upon arrival was overwhelming. He also pledged to promote Nigeria internationally, saying he would return to the United States to tell people that “Nigeria is a place to go.”
Governor Sanwo-Olu described the meeting as an opportunity to exchange ideas and commended Cenat for his interest in youth development. He welcomed the streamer back to Lagos and noted the state’s growing appeal to international creatives. The governor also highlighted Lagos’ rich cultural heritage, including discussions around traditional festivals such as the Eyo festival.
Cenat, one of the world’s most-followed streamers, commands a massive youth-driven audience across platforms including Twitch and YouTube. Lagos State Government officials did not disclose further details of his itinerary or the full scope of his engagements during the visit.
The visit comes weeks after another American streamer, IShowSpeed, toured Lagos, drawing large crowds and significant attention on social media.
During his 2024 visit to Nigeria, Cenat was hosted by music star Davido and immersed himself in Nigerian culture, sampling local cuisine, learning slang, and earning the nickname “Femi Omo Weyrey.” A highlight of that trip was his visit to the Makoko Children Development Foundation School and Orphanage, where he donated about $3,000 for immediate needs and later pledged funding for a new school project that has since grown into a $5 million initiative.
