The Governor of Lagos State and Chairman of the South-West Governors Forum, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has mourned the passing of Chief (Mrs.) Lucia Onabowale Onabanjo, widow of the late Chief Olabisi Onabanjo, the first civilian governor of Ogun State.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu extended condolences to Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, the government and people of Ogun, and the family and associates of the late chief, who died at the age of 100.
The governor described Mama Onabanjo as a figure of impact and legacy, noting her contributions as a devoted teacher for over two decades and as a mentor to generations of Nigerians in Lagos and Zaria.
“Mama Onabanjo served Ogun State passionately as the wife of one of the respected political leaders of the Unity Party of Nigeria during the Second Republic. She was a committed partner to her late husband, supporting the delivery of democratic dividends to the people of Ogun State between 1979 and 1983,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He prayed for divine comfort for her family, the people of Ijebu, and Ogun State. “As we mourn her departure, I pray that Almighty God grant her eternal rest and give the family and people of Ogun State the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” he added.
