Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the lives of residents through purposeful governance. He made this pledge on Tuesday during the Eid-el-Fitr celebration organized by the First Family of Lagos State and the Ministry of Home Affairs at Lagos House, Marina.
Themed ‘My Lord, Indeed I Am, for Whatever Good You Would Send Me in Need’, the event brought together religious and political leaders, government officials, and members of the Muslim community.
Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed gratitude to Lagosians for their continued support and faith in his government. He assured them of his administration’s dedication to fostering peace, unity, and progress in the state.
“I am happy you all came out today to celebrate with us. We thank all our Muslim brothers and sisters for their belief in our government. I pray that God Almighty will continue to keep us in peace and unity,” he said.
He also acknowledged the contributions of religious leaders and promised to maintain a governance style that prioritizes the well-being of Lagosians.
“We will continue to deliver purposeful governance that positively impacts lives. Our faith will continue to be renewed year in, year out. We look forward to celebrating many more Eid-el-Fitr festivals with you and joining you in another Ramadan next year,” the governor added.
Advice on 2025 Hajj Pilgrimage
Governor Sanwo-Olu urged intending pilgrims for the 2025 Hajj to ensure they are medically fit before embarking on the journey.
“By May, those traveling to Mecca will begin their pilgrimage. We pray for their safe journey and return. However, I appeal to those in poor health to refrain from traveling for the 2025 Hajj,” he advised.
Calls for Gratitude and Community Spirit
Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, called on residents to remain grateful for the state’s development and to uphold the spirit of compassion and empathy.
“Show kindness to your neighbors, demonstrate empathy, and continue to have faith in Almighty Allah’s goodness,” Dr. Hamzat urged.
First Lady’s Appeal for Compassion
The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Claudiana Sanwo-Olu, in her welcome address, encouraged Lagosians to assist the less privileged and uphold the values of giving and sharing.
“As we celebrate, let us extend a helping hand to those in need and ensure that the spirit of giving remains at the core of our daily lives. True worship is reflected in how we treat one another and contribute to the betterment of our state and nation,” she said.
Guest Speaker’s Message
Dr. Munirudeen Ar-Riyardy, a lecturer from Lagos State University of Education, Oto/Ijanikin, delivered a lecture titled ‘My Lord, Indeed I Am, for Whatever Good You Would Send Me in Need’, based on Q28:24.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining faith in God despite life’s challenges.
“No matter the difficulties we face, we must not curse our leaders. We should avoid sins that distance us from Almighty Allah’s grace,” he cautioned.
Acknowledgments and Dignitaries in Attendance
In his vote of thanks, Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Hon. Ibrahim Layode, urged Muslims to continue living according to the tenets of Islam.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat; former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Senator Oluranti Adebule; Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro; Chief of Staff, Mr. Tayo Ayinde; members of the Lagos State Executive Council; Grand Imam of Lagos State, Shaykh Suliamon Abu-Nolla; and Chief Imams from Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, and Epe divisions, alongside political and traditional leaders.
