NPFL leading scorer Silas Nwankwo has told SCORENigeria he is a die-hard Manchester United fan and hopes to like Super Eagles star Odion Ighalo make the dream move to the Premier
League giants.
The Nasarawa United striker revealed his father wanted him to be a doctor or lawyer and it was his mother who ensured he followed his clossen career path. The Full Interview:
SCORENIGERIA: How did your career start?
SILAS NWANKWO: I started playing football on the streets from childhhood.
Did you have your parents support when you started taking the game seriously?
Only my mother was in support of this. My father did not want me to play football at all. My father wanted me to go to school and become a lawyer or doctor.
Who discovered you?
That’s coach Abiodun Sala, he is the coach of De-Royal Academy Lagos, in fact he bought me my first football boots to encourage me.
Who is your role model?
That will be Cristiano Ronaldo.
What do you do before and after game?
I pray as a Christian, then listen to songs just to ease the tension before the game.
After every game, I try to rest, reflect on the game and try looking out for the errors and try correct them in the next training.
Which game has been your toughest so far?
That was against Kano Pillars at home.
Who is the toughest defender you have come up against in Nigeria?
They are all tough, I will have to do recaps of all my games to figure out which is tougher.
What are your targets with Nasarawa United?
My dream is to score goals to help my club secure continental ticket and win the Aiteo Cup.
What will be the highlight of your career thus far?
That was the day I scored hat-trick against Abia Warriors. I was very happy to be among the players to score a hat-trick.
And the biggest disappointment?
I was so sad and disappointed I was not included on the list of players who went for the friendly against Mexico even though I was the leading scorer in the league at that time.
If you have the opportunity to change somethings about the Nigerian league, what will you do?
I think that will be the travel, it is killing, I think that’s should be looked into.
Which club do you wish to play for?
Without mincing words that will be Manchester United because I love the Red Devils.
If you were not a footballer, what would you have being?
I have never thought of doing any other thing than playing football.
What is your message to the fans?
I love them all. I will keep giving them the best to cheer about.
