Following his landslide victory in the November 8 gubernatorial election, Anambra State Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has intensified efforts to accelerate development across the state, with a major boost to the education sector.
The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC), at its 22nd meeting held on November 12, 2025, at the Light House, Awka, approved the construction of 30 new primary schools. According to the Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, the schools will be sited in communities lacking public primary and secondary institutions to expand access and strengthen the state’s free education policy.
Mefor said the initiative aligns with ongoing reforms, which include free education from primary school to Senior Secondary School 3 (SS3) and the recruitment of 3,115 additional teachers—raising the total to 8,115.
Under Soludo’s administration, 22 secondary schools have been upgraded to smart schools, while over 60 science laboratories have been equipped with standard Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) facilities. The operational budgets of primary and secondary schools have also been increased to improve learning outcomes.
At the meeting, the Council adopted the 2026–2028 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), clearing the way for the 2026 Appropriation Bill to be presented to the Anambra State House of Assembly, with the aim of securing passage before December 31, 2026.
The Council also reviewed the outcome of the recent governorship poll, in which Soludo secured an overwhelming 73 percent of the vote, winning in all 21 local government areas. It described the result as evidence that delivering development and value to citizens translates to electoral success, and renewed its commitment to effective governance while thanking residents for their orderly conduct during the election.
