Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has debunked widespread rumours alleging the death of former Governor Willie Maduaburochukwu Obiano, describing the reports as false and malicious.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, Governor Soludo confirmed that he personally spoke with Obiano on Tuesday and affirmed that the former governor is “alive and well.”
Soludo condemned the circulation of the rumour, which had trended across social media and several online platforms claiming Obiano died in a London hospital. He described the act as “wicked, irresponsible, and deeply troubling,” warning that the spread of unverified information undermines public trust.
The Governor urged media practitioners, particularly online publishers, to adhere strictly to journalistic ethics by verifying information through official channels before releasing it to the public.
He called on residents to disregard the false reports and assured them that Obiano remains hale and hearty.
Governor Soludo extended his best wishes to the former governor, praying for his continued strength, peace, and a long, fulfilling life.
