Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has declared the Labour Party (LP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) “dead” in the state following the All Progressives Grand Alliance’s (APGA) victories in Saturday’s by-elections.
Speaking at a victory celebration in Nanka on Sunday, Soludo said the results proved that neither LP nor ADC had political weight in Anambra. He also took a swipe at former governor Peter Obi, who backed ADC candidates, insisting the party “does not exist” in the state.
“The people spoke overwhelmingly with over 75%. APGA is our movement,” Soludo said, adding that attempts by the ADC-led coalition to test its strength in Anambra had been firmly rejected by voters.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared APGA’s Emmanuel Nwachukwu winner of the Anambra South Senatorial District, with 90,408 votes against the APC’s Azuka Okwuosa (19,847) and ADC’s Donald Amangbo (2,889). APGA’s Ifeoma Azikiwe also won the Onitsha North Constituency 1 seat in the State House of Assembly.
Soludo, who is seeking re-election in November 2025 on the APGA platform, said the outcome was an emphatic statement that “both ADC and Labour Party are dead in Anambra.”
APC Secures Clean Sweep in Kaduna By-Elections, Breaks PDP Stronghold
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all three by-elections conducted on Saturday in Kaduna State, marking a historic breakthrough in areas long considered strongholds of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency, APC’s Felix Bagudu polled 34,580 votes to defeat the PDP candidate, who scored 11,491. The APC secured victory in Kajuru for the first time with 10,487 votes against PDP’s 6,789, and dominated in Chikun with 24,093 votes to PDP’s 4,702.
At the state level, APC candidates also triumphed in Zaria Kewaye and Basawa constituencies. INEC returning officer, Professor Balarabe Abdullahi, declared Isa Haruna Ihamo winner in Zaria Kewaye with 26,613 votes, ahead of SDP’s Nuhu Sada Abdullahi (5,721) and PDP’s Mamuda Abdullahi Wappa (5,331).
In Basawa, Professor Nasiru Rabiu announced APC’s victory with 10,926 votes, defeating the PDP candidate who garnered 5,499.
The wins further solidify APC’s dominance in Kaduna, particularly in the Zaria axis, where the contests were widely seen as a test of political strength between the ruling party and the opposition.
